My photographs are divided into four groups. The first, called "Travels," come from various trips I have taken in the USA and Canada, particularly in the Great Plains and Rocky Mountain regions of both these countries. These were all taken (prior to 1999) with a conventional, "point-and-shoot" Nikon camera. They offer some evidence for my belief that the critical aspect in photography is not elaborate equipment but the ability to identify good pictures. Early in 2000 I bought a Nikon digital camera and the remaining three groups of photos -- which are categorized as "Flowers," "People," and "Places" -- were taken with this device. These were almost all taken in (or around) Pittsburgh and are largely unretouched or altered except for taking out the occasional telephone wires, or the like.
