He then went on a 12 for 35 run, with 2 doubles, a triple, a homer, 6 runs and 6 RBIs. After that, he went 1 for 16 to finish the first half. He began the second part of the season by going 0 for 8, had a brief 2 for 4, 5 RBI stretch and then finished 1 for 7. In game 20, trailing by 2 in the bottom of the 9th, with 2 outs, Gabby Hartnett hit a 2-run homer to tie things up. In the bottom of the 11th, Stan Musial hit a game-winning home run. The next game, Hartnett hit another homer and Musial hit the game-winning triple in the bottom of the 9th. Pie Traynor finished the first half 17 for 64, then started the second yhalf 1 for 26. He began the season 12 for 37 with 6 RBIs then had streaks of 0-15,4-12 and 1-22 one after the other. Chick Hafey began the season 6 for 56 with 2 RBIs then drove in 2 in his next 7 at-bats, collecting 4 hits. His first 3 RBI all came on solo homers.
