Three Finger Brown allowed just 2 runs in his last 29 innings. Kid Nichols walked just 3 in his first 52 innings. Nichols had a no-run,4-hit span over 14 innings late in the year before allowed 7 runs and 11 hits in 11 and 2/3 innings, going 1-2 after a 7-1 start. Shoeless Joe Jackson once drove in 2 runs in four straight games, all on singles or less (a 2-run single in game 18, an rbi single and a sac fly in game 19, a 2-run single in game 20 and 2 rbi singles in game 21) Ty Cobb drove home 9 runs in the first 13 games then went 12 without an RBI. They started the second half being succesfful in their first 10 tries. McGinnity and Mathewson started 26-6 then dropped 2 games in a 7-day span in which the team lost only once with other pitchers on the hill. At the half, over half of the position players were hitting over .250, 5 had on-base percentages over .350 and half had EBAs of at least .500.
