  • I run a Diamond Mind Baseball league featuring the greatest players from Pirates history. We're over halfway through our planned 10-year run and the stats are available here
  • Years ago, I was an avid Transformers fan and during my fandom I created a web page for one of the more obscure characters in the Transformers canon, the female Autubot Firestar. Back then, I was had time to waste so was involved in MUSHing, a fun creative exercise that is heck on your social life and your wrists> I compiled a brief page on MUSHing in general here

  • I have written for a few papers and have had a regular spot in the pages of The Pitt News (a student newspaper) for some time. In case anyone's interested in my rants, here are most of the columns I had published (pre-edited, so there are some typos present) -
  • Advertisements, consumerism and child rearing
  • Pat Buchanan and populism
  • On the Allegheny County's first county executive race , and why Republican Jim Roddey was the better candidate [note: he won in a heavily Democratic region.
  • Free trade vs. freedom, wherein I explained the issues underlying the upcoming WTO talks and protests - and which were utterly ignored when the media finally covered the story about a month later.
  • On moral education
  • On genetically engineered food
  • On feminism
  • Social work organizations are too concerned with image and not enough with substance
  • On drip tubes, greed and economics
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Why Al Gore is a bad choice for president and why Bill Bradley was a better alternative in the primaries
  • The living wage movement
  • On technocrats and the rule of specialists
  • On soft news
  • Biblical economics
  • The peace dividend and the excessive military budget
  • Family farms and agribusiness
  • Nurse practitioners and prescription privileges
  • Politics and the internet
  • Rooting for the underdog
  • Bush, Gore, the Bible, the death penalty and more

Another old pasttime of mine (back in college days primarily) was the Roguelike computer game Angband. I conducted a survey of rec.games.roguelike.angband, probably of interest only to those who play said game. And a newer survey is here, done in 12/97, about 2 years after the original. The third survey I did was the longest and got the most replies. This one, conducted in 12/98, is found here. This last file is around 135K, quite a bit larger than the first two.

  • During my fandom days, I also wrote a few Transformer fanfics. One alternative TF history was Rebuilding, which mostly got very good reviews and no negative ones. but the ones I have selected give away parts of the story so you may not wish to look at them till later. Another Transformer story, entitled Twilight , shorter but about as good IMO. My third Transformers fanfic, First Impressions is also here.

I ama bibliophile and love a catchy phrase or comment, so I've gathered quite a few quotes over the years. They are grouped into categories - Political quotes, more politics, quotes about society and culture, more social issues quotes, nice quotes I've seen in other people's .sig files, Transformer and sports quotes (an odd combo, I know) and miscellaneous quotes. Hope you enjoy them - these are just things that caught my fancy and may not appeal to everyone.

Another writing project I undertook a few years back was to expand the Hollow World setting designed by TSR. I designed The Kogolor Dwarf Gazzetter and Hollow World Reference part 1 and part 2 with Thorfinn Tait.

The Malpheggi Lizard Man Hollow World Reference part 1 and Part 2, a project done by some members of the Mystara mailing list

And yet another Hollow World Reference I worked on, this one for the Krugel Orcs My fourth Hollow World Reference (which I got nice help on, from Cecil Cosman) is about The Jennite Horsemen. The second file for the Jennite HWR is here. The fifth and latest Hollow World Reference (done with Harri Maki) was on the Tanagoro Plainsmen - it is available in several sections - part one deals with general issues, part two with domestic life, part three with magic (including new classes of spellcaster), part four with miscellaneous items not covered earlier and part five focuses on sample Tanagoro NPCs.

When I first put this page together in 1995 I was a freshman in college and the internet was not well-developed. Search engines were rather limited and it was hard to find things as simple as major league baseball statistics. As a result, I designed this page mostly to help people find things I (and hopefully they) enjoyed. That's how most websites were set up back then - now, of course, there is no longer a real need. As a result the page has changed in content primarily to reflect things of my design. I still am including a list of my favorite links to try to get people to check out points of view they might not otherwise see or to point them to some interesting sites out there. These links are included below and were last updated in summer 2004 (the first time in 4 years I had done so).

Some people complained previously of the lack of autobiographical information on the page so here's a pretty short summary of who I am

  • A great MUSH (online RP) web page is Juliann's MUSH page. Another MUSH list is Amberyl's MUSH list
  • Arguably the most up-to-date and complete MUSH list, The Mud Connector, also lists MUDs and other games that favor hack n' slash over RP, so read the descriptions carefully
  • The Everything in the Universe FAQ by Chris Tutty, in development The Collection of Famous Last Words From RPGs(over 1200 currently)
  • Mystara is my favorite RPG setting, being the original D&D world in the days before formulaic world design took the place of free-flowing original design. Shawn Stanley's page is probably the most informative of all the Mystara ones out there, holding several disks full of writings by various fans of this wonderful setting.
  • A search engine for shareware and freeware games is a handy thing, hence my inclusion of this link.
  • Here's a page briefly describing the many variants of the freeware game Angband and some other free Roguelike games. The page also information on where to find them for various platforms.
  • The Freeware Game Moria
  • The homepage of Spiderweb Software, the makers of the Exile and Avernum line of games
  • Media

  • The Jewish Chronicle of Pittsburgh, a weekly newspaper Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) is a media watchdog group that has plenty of information on how to stay informed. They have often been accused of being evil liberals but I've never seen anyone contest their studies or criticism on a basis of it being non-factual. Rather, the criticism all seems to be of an ideological basis, no reason to ignore this group.
