Dear George Fisher:

I am concerned and frustrated to hear that you have decided to discontinue production of super-8mm sound film and super-8mm 200-ft. cartridges.

Super-8mm sound film is essential to my work as a filmmaker. I need it if I am going to shoot film with lip-sync sound. We know that super-8mm is not really viable as a "double-system" format, and filming in 16mm is far too costly both for me and for filmmakers in my situation (not just the film, but the processing and lab fees as well). Post-striping super-8mm has always been a problem, as the stripe has a tendency to peel off after any considerable use.

Please reconsider this decision. I am sure you are aware of the magic that sound can add to any film. To deny this magic to super-8mm filmmakers is unjust and wrong.

Your decision to discontinue 200-ft. super-8mm cartridges is similarly insensitive to both my needs and those of my colleagues. I use these often in my filmmaking, and find them to be extremely useful in many situations. Please reconsider this decision as well.

I most strongly urge you to give us super-8mm filmmakers greater support. There are many of us all across the nation, and in other countries as well. We cannot use 16mm because the lab costs are prohibitive (particularly the sound mixing), and much equipment must be rented instead of owned. We don't want to use video, because it just can not match the quality and versatility of film.

Thank you very much for you consideration into this crucial matter.

A long time customer,
