parallel with the bolex h-16 rex 4, rex 5 and rex 5/tv bolex introduced similar line of bolex h-16 sb, sbm and sbm/tv cameras. they are in all respects identical except for a heavy duty single bayonet mount for positive attachment of heavy telephoto and zoom lenses instead of a 3-lens turret. the magnification of the 10x viewfinder on sbm model was changed to 13x in 1972.

year of introduction:
bolex h-16 sb: 1970
bolex h-16 sbm: 1971
bolex h-16 sbm/tv: 1978

bolex h-16 professional motion picture cameras now come equipped either with the traditional three-lens turret or with a new bayonet mount for secure mounting and quick interchangeability of lenses. both the bolex sbm camera (400' film capacity) and the bolex sb camera (100' film capacity) feature a large, sturdy plate, which holds a solid 2 1/2" bayonet fitting for extra firm zoom lens mounting.

with the new bayonet feature, lenses can be changed quickly and are locked-in with a simple turn on a large milled ring. lenses are easily removd by pushing a locking lever while turning the milled ring.

bolex h-16 sbm and sb cameras have a through-the-lens reflex viewfinder with powerful 10x magnification. designed primarily for use with zoom lenses, these cameras do not include a multifocal viewfinder, but one can be purchased separately with accessory adapter.

filter insertion is from the right side of the camera, where all other camera controls are located. the filter folders provide positive locking and can be removed only by pressing a locking lever. inserted filter holder is positioned to the right of the reflex prism but still in the bayonet mount plate, where it is protected from dust and fingermarks. therefore, it need not be removed from the camera when not in use. four filter holders are supplied with each camera.

the new bolex h-16 sbm and sb bayonet mount cameras are unique with their rugged, heavy-duty bayonet mount, permanently installed filter slot, and convenient new lid latch. in all other respects, these cameras have the same mechanical characteristics as the h-16 rex 5 and rex 4 models.
