"CINE-VOICE" CAMERA

Threading The Camera. The Auricon "Cine-Voice" Camera
uses 100-foot rolls of 16mm single-perforated film on daylight
loading spools. To thread, raise the footage indicator arm and
put the full spool of film on the spindle marked "Supply" and
the thread the film through the camera following the threading
lines on the center plate. (See Photo.) The take-up spool should
be checked to see that it is not bent or mutilated in such a way
as to prevent film from taking up smoothly. The camera may
be turned by hand with the knurled spinner knob on the
sprocket. If difficulty is encountered in threading the film
through the gate, turn the spinner knob slightly. This will
permit the claw to go into retracted position, and by pulling the
pressure pad back against spring tension slightly, the film may
readily be placed in the gate. It is a good plan to turn the
sprocket spinner knob again until the claw movies in and
engages one of the film preforations. Before proceding further
in the threading operation it is necessary to make certain that
the claw properly engages the perforation and that the film is
aligned in the film channel as it must be for the claw to enter
the perforation. When the pressure pad is released with the film
in the gate, another turn of the spinner knob will result in the
film moving intermittantly, which is the correct action. The film
pressure plate may be entirely removed from the camera to
expedite cleaning the gate, by raising the "spring pressure arm".
To replace the pressure plate, pull spring pressure arm back,
place pressure plate in the gate, and then let the spring pressure
arm down gently so that the slotted hole in the arm will slip
over the pin in the back or the pressure plate, holding it firmly
in place. After doing this, again slowly turn the spinner knob
to be sure that the claw clears the pressure pad, this precaution
preventing damage to the claw.
In following the threading diagram you must check both sides of the main sprocket to be absolutely certain that the sprocket
teeth protrude through the perforations. This insures that the
film is correctly mounted on the sprocket. Carelessness at this
point will result in lost loops and jamming of the camera. The
film end must be engaged in the takeup spool. After the camera
has been run for a foot or two to check the threading, manually
take up on the takeup spool to be sure that the end is securely
trapped. Not to do this may result in a camera jam. When
threading is checked, the camera door can be put on and both
locking screws tightened. Approximately five feet of film
should be run in to bring unexposed film into the gate. As with
any daylight loading camera, the Auricon "Cine-Voice" should
be loaded and unloaded in subdued light.

Lubrication. There are five oil holes identified by red
markings. Use one or two drops of light machine oil in these
holes once a year or after 5000 feet of film has been run
through the camera. Tilt the camera up when oiling the mech-
anism located at the lens mount. Wipe any excess or spilled oil
immediately. Check that no oil falls anywhere that might
permit it to come into contact with the film.
