This is a post from a student
in a previous term on how to install Ubuntu 7.04 on a ThinkPad T60. The
same site has guides for other Thinkpad models and other OSes also.
In
general I do not encourage students in this class to install Linux
directly on their laptops - running Linux inside VMWare is much safer.
However if you are fairly technical, and are willing to risk TOTAL LOSS
OF ALL DATA ON YOUR LAPTOP, you may find this helpful. Back up all your
data first! Don't say I didn't warn you.

I
know a bunch of us have IBM ThinkPads because they are required for our
program. I have set up a permanent partition on my laptop and found the
site www.thinkwiki.org to be useful. There are tons of guides to
hardware support and installation issues for just about every thinkpad
model.
