Computer and Internet Help. 

For all the solutions you need in finding a fix for your computer or Internet related errors, problems, and pain in the neck quirks.  These sites offer tips, tricks, tweaks, fixes, and feedback for almost any issue you may have.  From the novice user (newbie) to the advanced tech, there is a site for you here. There's also a page of Webmaster's links available

General Help Links
  • Microsoft Support Help: The support section for Microsoft.  Not always the easiest site to navigate, but there are a lot of quality content pages here.
  • Netscape Help: Help with the Netscape Browser. 
  • Computer Hope: The top 'computer, help' site on Googles list.  Great site for help with all computer related problems.
  • Computer help: Mostly a "help for hire" site, but some good FAQ and links.
  • Internet Tips and Tricks: Good site for Internet info.
  • Cyber Tech: Good forums and faq pages. 
  • PC 911: Lots of good info here.  A lot of "how to" articles. 
  • Computer Help A to Z: Hundreds of computer tips, techniques, and resources designed to help you master the power of your personal computer without all the technical jargon.
  • ZD Net: From beginner to advanced.  Large site. 
  • The Register: A UK site with very good news, and information about problem areas on the web.
  • PC Pitstop: Good place to get a basic run down on your computers health. 
  • PC Hell: Good place to start for your basic problems and how to questions.

  • Error Codes for modems.
  • Hardware-HQ: help for hardware and software problems.  Includes a forum for feedback on specific and individual problems.
  • CD ROM Guide: Help for CD problems: 
  • Toms Hardware: Lots of good hardware issues addressed here.
  • Hardware Central: Tutorials, Lots of Info, good if you are searching to buy hardware.
  • Hardware Hell: Great for troubleshooting hardware issues.  Tons of links to the best "help" sites on the net.
  • AMD Zone: For those who prefer the AMD cpu to the Intel versions.
  • Modem Help: Good for all connections
  • Optimizing.net: I haven't used this, but Info here looks like it's done for any type of Internet connection (optimize your connection).

  • Microsoft's Power Toys: Includes their free tweak UI program.
  • Boot Disk:Where to find boot disks for most operating systems. Linux, ME, 95, 98, and even solutions to Win XP and Win2K systems.
  • Win Guides: THE "how to" site for MS Windows users.
  • 24 Hour Support: modems, drivers, html help
  • C|Net (help.com) - Great site that's been around for a while. Lot's of downloads.
  • Black Viper: A lot of Windows tweaks and tips, including XP information.
  • Drivel: A links page, most of them were already listed here when I found the site, but it is a good resource.
  • MS Access Database Repair: Providing instant, 24HR MS Access database repair, 24/7, worldwide. Free analysis and report. Will beat any competitors price.
  • MS Office Viewers: Can't read a file because it was created with a Microsoft program - go here
 
Anti-Virus, Firewall, and Security sites: 
  • CERT: The primary Anti-Virus organization.
  • Norton: Perhaps the easiest to use of the well known anti-virus programs.
  • McAfee: Not as easy to use, but a quality product.
  • AVG: Free Antivirus program.
  • Zone Alarm: Good free firewall
  • SOPHOS: They sell anti-vir software, but have good info.
  • CSRC:Government site on viruses and security.
  • Gladiator: Another free anti-virus program
  • PC Cillin: Very good program.  Site can scan your PC on-line for viruses:  housecall
  • Spy Bot: Search and destroy those "spy" elements on your PC
  • Ad Aware: Very good, but hasn't been updated for a while.  Checks for "Advertisements" that send info out. (spy ware)
  • Security Audit: Test how secure your PC is on the Internet.
  • GRC: Home of "Shields UP", "port probe"  and other find tests, as well as a selection of freeware.

Tech Sites and Forums:

  • Major Geeks: Very good site! Lots of good programs to download, and they have a message board forum with very talented people offering solutions to just about every problem you may have.
  • Newbie Developer: Excellent site for help with building web sites or other technical issues.
  • The Tech Guy: Very good. Message board with knowledgeable member, fast response time.  Wish I would have found them earlier. 
  • Help Online: Support for computer, Internet, Networking, and other info.
  • Experts Exchange: Similar to Major Geeks, clean layout, but they don't have the downloads that Major Geeks have.
  • Microsoft Tech Net: Advanced issues can be found here.
  • Microsoft Knowledge Base: More M$ not in Technet.  dry reading, but sometimes the answer you need is here.
  • Web Attack: Good site, not just security.  Find missing or updated files, drivers, dll, etc.
  • Tek Tips: Another good site for the more advanced users.
  • ARS: Good technical site.

  • Webmaster links: Links for the webmasters, and geeks.  Tools, tips, tricks, and resources you can find on the Internet to make your life a little easier.
  • The Bad Guys: Information about viruses, computer hackers and crackers, and some of the firewall, spyware, and add blocking help.
  • Find Me: How to get found in the huge search engine world; what you should, and should not do.
  • Link Exchanges: Some of the things to look for when you decide to increase your link popularity with search engines.
  • Saving from the web: Whether you want to download a program, or  learn how to save those beautiful wallpaper graphics from the web; this page is a good read.
  • Errors and Solutions: Some of the error codes you may see, and what to do about them.
  • Lingo and SlangConfused about an acronym, or just want to know what the jargon means, this list of pages will help.

  • AndTech: Reviews of computer products.  Read before you buy.
  • PC Mech: Another PC Mechanic style of site.  Technical readings and tips.
  • Old Software: Looking for an old software program, you might find old versions of your favorite software here.
  • Utility Geek: Looking for little utility downloads of all kinds?  A few good things can be found here for cpu, hard-drives, speed, registry, backups, monitor, benchmarks, etc.
