Sending Email

One of the best ways to show your support for the OpenNet Coalition is to email the members of Pittsburgh's City Council voicing your support. Please keep the tone of you email respectiful and do not under any circumstances send multiple copies of the email (SPAM) to our elected City Coucilmen!

The email should come from you and reflect your feelings on the issue along with what you believe is important. For some of our feelings on the issue, check out Why It Is Important. Here is an example message:

Dear Councilman:

I would like to express my support for competition and consumer choice in high-speed Internet access over the cable network. Including a non-discrminatory equal access clause in the upcoming Cable Franchising Agreement with AT&T (formerly TCI) Cable will help to accomplish this. The clause will simply require that AT&T give competing Internet Service Providers (ISPs) access to the broadband network at the same rates, terms and conditions that they sell to their own ISP, @Home.

This is important to me because I don't believe that I will get the best service for the lowest price if my only choice of ISP is @Home. I am also concerned that one company controlling high speed access is a dangerous thing. As far as I am concerned, more competition is better than none.

I believe that adding this language will go far to ensure that competition exists in the future broadband access market and that I will have a choice of ISPs when Internet Access via Cable comes to Pittsburgh.

Sincerely,

G. Douglas Davidson
