The OpenNET Coalition was founded to ensure that consumers will always have freedom of choice between many ISP alternatives for affordable high-speed Internet Access. Our goal is to require the cable companies to sell other ISPs access to their broadband network at the same terms and conditions that they sell to their own single ISP. Sounds pretty darn fair.

If the Cable companies have their way, a large percentage of the population will have the choice of a Single ISP, the cable company's ISP. No matter what the quality, price, or business practices of the Cable company's ISP, these many individuals will have NO OTHER CHOICE!

CityNet is for competition. So we have joined the many OpenNET Coalitition members, including AOL and GTE and other local Pittsburgh based ISPs to try to do something about it. If you want to help, you can send a variation of the following letter to the members of Pittsburgh's City Council. This is a historic opportunity to make a change for the better not just in Pittsburgh, but throughout the country. Let's set a precedent, as Portland, Oregon just did, and not let AT&T (formerly TCI) create a new and potentially more dangerous monopoly!
